- Any follow-up questions about the grantee call?
- Quick recap of challenges/improvement goal
- Discussion on Afton’s challenge
- Issue is making sure sites are following protocols for data. Barrier was introduction of information caused by virtual environment. Her challenge was trying to translate this to her subgrantees who are not providing as much as pre-pandemic times.
- Afton is already phasing in a strategy. She created a new protocol which is a step-by-step process to help the subgrantees. She claims it is working much better than the previous version and has seen a noticeable improvement. We are asking her to measure and monitor these results to ensure it continues to go well.
- Follow-up discussion on Sandy’s strategy
- Did the team meet internally about using interns?
- They have picked up a new employee to help coordinate the curriculum. Doesn’t appear they are ready yet.
- What were the outcomes of that meeting?
- Lost two people but are still looking into picking up interns. For now, though, it is just Sandy and Jennifer working on their challenges.

- Addressing root causes on Jennifer’s video strategy
- What root cause(s) would you prioritize as most important to address?
- She realized a lot of the ways she reaches parents is through the school. Only parents who are engaged with schools are the ones she reaches. If she is sending out videos, how can she reach other parents who aren’t as engaged.
- Includes reaching out to non-English speaking parents
- Her curriculum is currently not supported for other languages. She has a connection for a Spanish version but not in her program, it’s in a different one.
- Another issue is she realized her activities don’t translate well to an online platform. She wants to find a way to bring back interactive activities to online groups.
- She realized a lot of the ways she reaches parents is through the school. Only parents who are engaged with schools are the ones she reaches. If she is sending out videos, how can she reach other parents who aren’t as engaged.
- Think about strategies to address these root causes
- Thinking about reaching out to different organization ands groups around the community. Difficulty with this is staffing (it’s only her) and timing to work on this.
- Roseana offered to think about the materials being sent to parents. Asking for feedback from parents about their marketing. Getting more information on what works well currently.
- Has meeting with parents monthly and has a line of communication with parents where she gathers feedback
- Parents really liked the personal interaction with other parents that doesn’t seem to translate well virtually
- Has meeting with parents monthly and has a line of communication with parents where she gathers feedback
- Several strategy ideas. Asking her to try and select one then figure out a way to measure. It seems diversity may be the top root cause she wants to tackle. She is going to work on narrowing it down further.
- Jennifer is currently upgrading her computer. Her old one could not support this strategy. Not working on the video now.
- What root cause(s) would you prioritize as most important to address?
- Anything else?
- Moving next call (April 12th) to start at 2:30pm CT/3:30 EST
- Works for everyone!
